Points are shared as Everton and Aston Villa draw 0-0 at Goodison Park. With many chances and two major interferences by VAR, the fixture ends goalless.
In the 18th minute of the first half, Aston Villa fullback Alex Moreno struck a sweet shot into the bottom corner past Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. After an extremely lengthy VAR decision, it was decided that Leon Bailey was marginally offside in the build-up to the goal. During the wait, Everton fans joined in unity to express their feelings regarding VAR, chanting, “VAR is f****** s**t.” A huge reaction from Evertonians as decisions don’t normally go their way!
The game continued with Everton striker Dominic Calvert Lewin being one-on-one with goalkeeper Emi Martinez, but unfortunately, he fluffed the chance and the goalie saved the chance for Everton to go ahead.
In the last ten minutes of the game, Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure slotted the ball into the back of the net, but the linesman instantly stuck his flag out to call it off for outside. It was an absolute huge blow for Everton, as they were just moments away from possibly having an advantage for the last minutes of the match.
The match ended in a draw, with Everton more than likely being the team happiest about the result, as they came into this game as huge underdogs due to the gap between the two of them in the league table.
The game shows that Everton are difficult to defeat, as they looked extremely organised in their formation and tactics.
