Everton were defeated by Fulham on penalties in the quarter-finals of the Caraboa Cup.
Fulham scored the opener with an unfortunate deflection off Everton defender Michael Keane in the 41st minute of the first half. Everton, however, didn't deserve to go behind.
The game stretched on with some big chances but not a lot of extremely high intensity, until the final minutes of the second half.
Everton striker Beto received the ball in the air after a deflection off a shot by midfielder James Garner and headed it past Leno, the Fulham goalkeeper.
Penalties occurred, with a chance to win the game from Amadou Onana for Everton, and a chance to save the day from Jordan Pickford. These opportunities came but weren't applied within the game.
Idrissa Gana Gueye then hit a post in sudden death, allowing Tosin Adarabioyo to seal victory with Fulham’s eighth attempt from the spot.
Heartbreak for Everton as their best chance for a trophy is crushed by Fulham, who progress to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. Their opponent will be revealed after the Liverpool vs West Ham game at Anfield tomorrow.
