Everton are defeated 2-1 against Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as Richarlison and Heung Min Son score for Spurs and Andre Gomes for Everton.
Richarlison opened the scoring for Tottenham in the 9th minute, with the ex-Everton striker returning to face the Blues since the first time he left in the summer transfer window. Nine more minutes later, South Korean winger Heung Min Son gave Tottenham an extra advantage to make it 2-0 to Spurs.
The game continued on, and into the second half, Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin was through and scored, but unfortunately, it was disallowed by VAR.
With an even stronger mentality going towards the end of the game, Everton midfielder Andre Gomes hit a sweet strike from the edge of the box following a corner for the blues, which gave Everton some hope.
In the 7th minute of additional time after the full 90, Everton striker Arnaut Danjuma hit a shot that hit the crossbar, causing an upset for Everton.
So close for the toffees, which would've savoured them an important point away from home.
Sean Dyche summed up the occasion in his post-march interview, as he mainly focused upon the controversial VAR decision to rule out Calvert-Lewin's goal:
"It is unfortunate I have to start with that because I thought we were excellent, but I will go back to that. I am a big fan of VAR, but I don’t know where that one lives today."
“I think VAR has over-reffed the moment, where the referee and the linesman have amazing views. They have clearly made a decision. All their experience and years of doing it goes out the window because they’ll find contact."
“They are going to find contact, they find contact with virtually everything.
“I’m a big fan of VAR, but it can’t be refereeing every moment."
As Christmas is also here, there is a break in the Premier League season. Tottenham lies fourth in the table and in a position for a Champions League qualification spot. On the other hand, Everton are 16th, following a strong reaction to their 10-point deduction due to FFP rules.
