An Andre Gomes free kick that deflected off the inside of the post and went in was enough for Everton to claim a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace to obtain their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup, where they will face Luton Town at Goodison Park.
An absolute lacklustre performance by both sides, with the majority of the first half being end-to-end with no real threats until an edge-of-the box free kick fell to the Blues. Andre Gomes then hit a sweet strike off the post and into the back of the net to give Everton an advantage moving into the second half of the game!
Everton's goalkeeper, Joao Virginia, had an absolutely fantastic performance and was arguably the best player on the pitch. Superb collection and ability to predict whether to go and press for the ball or sit back.
Also, as per usual, James Garner dictated the play, picked off passes at the correct time, and pressed the Crystal Palace midfield. He does this week in and week out without mistake.
Onto the next game, which is the next FA Cup game vs. Luton Town.
