Everton travel down to London to face Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Toffee’s first away day of the 24/25 Premier League season.
The Blues’ opening game last weekend proved there is not a lot of hope for this fixture, as a 3-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion left fans leaving the stadium reasonably early in disgust with the performance. A post-match interview with manager Sean Dyche was questionable too; when asked about the spectators exiting the stadium early, he responded, “That’s the reality at this club.”
An Ashley Young red card means he is unavailable for the fixture against Spurs, leaving Everton with no preferred natural right back replacement. After Young was sent off, a defensive substitution, even though the deficit was only 2, was made, and Mason Holgate was brought on with Jack Harrison making way. A huge uproar of complaints within Goodison Park emerged, with many fans booing Holgate and possibly Dyche too for playing it safe to not create more damage.
Mason Holgate Career Timeline:
23/24 - Everton: End of loan at Sheffield United
23/24 - Sheffield United: Loan deal - Terminated
23/24 - Everton: End of loan at Southampton
23/24 - Southampton: Loan deal
18/19 - Everton: End of loan at West Brom
18/19 - West Bron: Loan deal
15/16 - Everton - £1.5m
14/15 - Barnsley - Academy
However, Tottenham didn’t get off to the best start last week either, after Jamie Vardy equalised for Leicester to grab a point after Pedro Porro’s header opened the scoring. Ex-Everton player Richarlison missed a golden chance to win the match towards the dying moments as a header from a cross into the penalty area went past the post.
Richarlison Stats:
Tottenham Hotspur:
Appearances - 67
Goals - 15
Assists - 8
Everton:
Appearances - 152
Goals - 53
Assists - 13
Absentees may play a huge part in this game, as Spurs’ new signing from Bournemouth, Dominic Solanke, will miss the match after picking up a knock. The new £60 million+ striker didn’t miss one Premier League game for the Cherries last season, featuring in all 38, but will be in the stands very early on in his Tottenham career.
It isn’t as bad as Everton, however, as the injury list seems to be growing bigger day by day.
Everton Current Injury List:
Youseff Chermiti - Foot Injury
Nathan Patterson - Thigh Injury
Jarrad Branthwaite - Groin/ Hip Injury
James Garner - Lower Leg Injury
Seamus Coleman - Lower Leg Injury
James Tarkoswki - Thigh Injury - Possible to feature
Behind the scenes at Everton, this week has been eventful due to more takeover news occurring. US billionaire John Textor, who is a big shareholder at Crystal Palace, is reportedly exploring the opportunity to become a major shareholder of the Blues. Textor made a bid to become the owner of Crystal Palace; unfortunately, it didn’t go through. Now he wants to sell the 45% he has to be able to buy Everton instead.
