7 minutes in, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin was brought down in the Liverpool penalty area, initially given by the referee, Andy Madley, and the right decision. Unfortunately for the Blues, the decision was taken to VAR for an offside call, and the penalty decision was overturned.

The game continued, and it seemed Everton had the best chances overall to go ahead, which was extremely unexpected for all.
Onto the 27th minute, and a set piece crossed into the Liverpool box by the Blues landed awkwardly, and it fell to English defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who had just enough strength in him to slip it past Alisson. As it hit the post, Dominic Calvert-Lewin smashed it in from extremely close range to make sure the goal stood, but it wasn’t necessary as the goal stood as Branthwaite’s.
Jarrad Branthwaite Stats This Season:
Goals: 3
Clean Sheets: 10

Fouls: 24
However, the goal was the last of Everton’s attacking flow in the first half, and for the 20 minutes that remained, it seemed Liverpool were relentless, with constant pressure on the Everton defence, causing tension and nerves across both the squad and fans. Luckily, Everton had managed to see the half out and had a moment to refresh and rethink.
At halftime, Sean Dyche decided to take off Ukrainian left back Mykolenko, as he picked up an injury during the first half.
Mykolenko OFF
Young ON
The second half began exactly as Everton wanted, with 13 minutes in, Dwight McNeil was gifted a corner, and as it was whipped into the back post, Dominic Calvert-Lewin towered over Dutch defender Van Dijk to head it past Alisson to give the Toffees a 2-0 advantage over the Reds.
Almost like a continuation of the first half, after the Everton goal, Liverpool were relentless, with Juergen Klopp totally beginning to believe that he might be able to get something from the game due to the triple substitution he made:
Konate, Szoboszlai, Jones OFF
Quansah, Endo, Elliott ON
The game eased on, with more press from Liverpool, but Everton were able to cope with it, seeing the game out to gain 3 points! All fans in full voice and expressing themselves to the point of exhaustion was simply incredible.
A completely unexpected result, affecting both sides of the table!
