Everton vs Chelsea: Clash of The Titans

Updated: Dec 10, 2023

Get ready for an exhilarating showdown as Everton locks horns with Chelsea on December 10, 2023.

With both teams eyeing up three points to help them progress up the Premier League table, it will surely be an exciting game.

Everton has been in fine form lately, securing impressive victories in their previous matches against Newcastle, where they dominated the second half and won 3-0, and Nottingham Forest, in a robust match, where the Blues came out on top! They've shown great resilience and determination, which has propelled them out of the relegation zone.

On the other hand, Chelsea has also been performing well, consistently picking up points and maintaining their strong position in the middle of the league, but this isn't the norm for Chelsea. They should be battling at the top of the table but have found themselves in the top six's shadow for the past couple years.

In the lead-up to this crucial encounter, both managers have shared their thoughts in their press conferences. Here's what Sean Dyche, Everton manager, has to say about the occasion:

“I saw them at Old Trafford, and they regathered themselves, I thought."

“After a quiet first half, they looked like an outfit in the second half.

“[Pochettino] is definitely a manager I respect. It seems to me that he’s making changes and finding different ways to work with the players. Sometimes that takes time. It did at Tottenham when he was there.

“They’ve still got very good players, and I don’t think you spend all that money with a good manager who is knowledgeable and don’t get some kind of outcome, so we have to make sure we’re ready.”

Sean also gave injury updates on the likes of James Garner and Amadou Onana. He also provided a report regarding Jordan Pickford and Seamus Coleman, who both picked up knocks against Newcastle but nothing major.

Dyche is hopeful that Garner will be available for the match against Chelsea and that Onana will need some more time on the sidelines.

Dyche on Coleman:

“We’ll check on Seamus tomorrow. He has a minor situation, we think, which is unfortunate, but that can happen. He has been out for a long time. It's great to have him back, he wore the armband with pride like he does.

Dyche on Pickford:

"Pickford has just got a niggly thing on his knee. I'll find out more tomorrow; you never like to talk about it until you find out 24 to 48 hours later. I don't think it's anything too serious."

On the other hand, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino believes this game is going to be a massive test for his side, saying:

"It is a much different style; they can play in different ways. Always aggressive teams, like his persona, aggressive and brave. They are going to try to press high, build from the back, and also be direct. Massive challenge for us."

He also gave updates on the injury situation of Nkunku and Gusto:

"Still assessing day by day; see tomorrow. I don't believe that he will be involved, but we need to assess day by day. We see also Malo Gusto, but apart from that, no."

It will be exciting to see the attitude of both sides, whether both teams come into the game with confidence or a more laid-back attitude.
