Everton Travel To Face Bottom Of The League

Everton travel down to the south coast to face bottom of the league Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium in a game where the toffees will be hoping they can climb out the danger area, just above the relegation zone, and into midtable.

Southampton, alongside Ipswich Town and Wolves, are the only three teams that have not won a game yet this Premier League season, and with the campaign now truly underway, match day 10, there will definitely be some worrying signings for these teams.

Out of the three Southampton sit worse off, 20th in the table and only managing to create one point this season in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town. A -13 goal difference to go with that means that many have the Saints written off and that they are destined to be relegated into the Championship at the end of the season.

Last weekend Southampton were expectedly defeated by Manchester City. An early goal by Erling Haaland was enough as the Saints found it difficult to overcome the one goal deficit on the day.

Southampton Premier League Results:

Man City 1-0 Southampton

Southampton 2-3 Leicester

Arsenal 3-1 Southampton

Bournemouth 3-1 Southampton

Southampton 1-1 Ipswich Town

Southampton 0-3 Man United

Brentford 3-1 Southampton

Southampton 0-1 Nottingham Forest

Newcastle 1-0 Southampton

Everton, on the other hand, were able to come back from a one goal deficit. As Everton welcomed Fulham to Goodison Park, the Toffees did so to ex-player Alex Iwobi. The Nigerian was able to get onto the score sheet as a low shot from outside the box between the centre backs flew nicely into the bottom corner past Jordan Pickford; no celebration from Iwobi either as a sign of respect.

Around the 80th minute mark, Sean Dyche made a few substitutions, introducing Mangala, Branthwaite, and Beto. This ultimately left Michael Keane upfront alongside Beto. A hoof upwards in hopes of desperation in the final moments of the game landed perfectly for Senegalese attacker Iliman Ndiaye, who played a cross into Ashley Young, who placed it across goal for Beto, who headed it home!

An emotional Beto in his post-match interview revealed how difficult it has been for him due to playing time, with Dyche favouring Calvert-Lewin over the 26-year-old.

Now the question is, who starts upfront for Everton versus Southampton?

Calvert-Lewin Everton Stats:

Sean Dyche has revealed that Dwight McNeil and Abdoulaye Doucoure “has a chance” of returning to first team action as he was substituted off the field in Everton’s draw against Fulham. Promising signs too, as Albanian loanee Armando Broja is close to returning to the training squad after a lengthy time absent.

Everton are now unbeaten in 5 Premier League games, hoping to make it 6 on Saturday.
