Everton’s Last Home Game Of The Season Ends In Victory

Abdoulaye Doucoure’s header was enough to give the Blues a 1-0 win over Sheffield United in the last home game of the season.

Already relegated, Sheffield United travelled to Goodison Park with nothing to play for, and you could say the same for Everton too. This was obvious from the performance of both sides as there was no need for a victory.

Bottom of Premier League Table - Sunday 12th May:

15 Everton 40

16 Brentford 39

17 Nottingham Forest 29

18 Luton 26

19 Burnley 24

20 Sheffield United 16

In a season with a lot of uncertainty regarding points deductions and ownership, Everton have overcome the odds and are now hoping that the bad times have passed and the future will be a lot better. With the club hoping to balance its finances within the summer transfer window, Director of Football Kevin Thelwell has spoken about progress.

Kevin Thelwell Statement:

The reality is, given the regulations in place and the Club’s current financial position, we have to trade well. Working within such tight financial parameters makes the job extremely difficult. Whilst we want to ensure the team is as competitive as possible, we cannot lose sight of our central objective to protect the long-term stability of the Club.

That does mean players will be sold, and also that every tool at our disposal will be used to secure new additions to the squad, including utilisation of the loan market. Both Sean and I understand the responsibility we have – and that is a responsibility which has to be our priority. That may not be exciting to hear but, under our current circumstances, it is the right thing for Everton.

Back to the result against the Blades, the 3 points confirmed that in the last 5 Premier League home games, Everton’s form is simply incredible.

claiming all five victories, scoring seven goals, and keeping a clean sheet in every single one of them. A huge turnaround from last season’s poor results.

Without point deductions, Everton would be 11th and 6 points off a European competition.

The game’s first amazing chance was the only goal. Dominic Calvert-Lewin picked up the ball and carried it around the goalkeeper, lobbed it into the path of Doucoure, who had an empty net, and headed it home in front of Park End.

Sheffield United had their own chances towards the conclusion of the fixture, but they weren’t enough to grab anything, and the game finished 1-0 to the Blues.

After the full-time whistle was blown, Everton players brought their families out in a lap of honour around the perimeter of the pitch to show their appreciation for the fans' support this season.
