Southampton travel to Goodison to face the Toffees in the Carabao Cup Third Round.
Both teams have been struggling in the Premier League this season, as Everton’s consecutive capitulation from a 2-0 goal lead leaves the Blues bottom of the table four games deep this season.
Premier League Relegation Zone:
18 Wolves 1 -7
19 Southampton 0 -7
10 Everton 0 -9
However, Southampton find themselves in the same situation. They faced a 3-0 loss against Manchester United last weekend, where for the first quarter of the game the Red Devils looked uncomfortable. However, Ten Hag was able to get the job done. The week before they were beaten 3-1 by Brentford, where a late goal by Yukinari Sugawara was nothing but a constellation.
Everton and Southampton’s priorities are evidently not set for this competition but instead are now focused on the league as results are necessary for both. However, a result here might produce a boost of morale and confidence, and for the losing side, it may result in a loss of motivation for the future gameweeks.

Everton face Leicester away next week at the King Power Stadium, where many Evertonians believe that playing against a weaker opposition may be able to hopefully start the Toffee’s season, forgetting about past results.
Leicester are yet to win a game this season too, but did manage to pull off a surprising draw against Tottenham Hotspur with a goal from none other than Jamie Vardy.
Southampton face newly promoted Ipswich Town at St Mary’s Stadium in a more than likely evenly matched game. Ipswich will be confident, however, as they managed to drag strongly starting Brighton and Hove Albion to a goalless draw at the Amex.

There has been more takeover talk regarding Moshiri’s future as majority shareholder in Everton Football Club this week. In an exclusive interview with Alan Myers and Sky Sports, American billionaire John Textor, who is currently undergoing a period of exclusivity, expressed his desire to become Everton’s new owner, as he believes he is the right man for it.
“If someone asks you if you want to become the owner of Everton, it's like someone asking you if you want to be President of the United States. Of course you do.”
However, it was revealed by Bloomsberg yesterday that The Friedkin Group, led by Dan Friedkin, majority shareholder at Roma, has reignited his interest in purchasing the club. The Friedkin Group underwent a period of exclusivity into the club before deciding to step away from negotiations.
This situation occurred when purchasing Roma too. They stepped away from negotiations but were announced, two months later, as new owners of the club. Could we see that happen for Everton? Or will John Textor step in the way?
