Last season, Everton faced Doncaster in the second round of the Caraboa Cup too. The game finished 2-1 for the Toffees. Ironside opened the scoring late into the first half, giving Doncaster the lead going into the break. In the 73rd minute, Beto, on his debut, equalised, giving Everton the confidence boost they needed. In the 88th minute, Dutch winger Arnaut Danjuma scored and allowed the Toffees to progress into the third round of the cup!
In the third round of the cup, Everton travelled to Birmingham to face Aston Villa at Villa Park. Everton went into the game as underdogs, however, goals from James Garner and Dominic Calvert-Lewin for Everton and a late consolation goal from Kamara meant the game finished 2-1 and Everton progressed to the round of 16.
In the round of 16, it was Burnley at home. A fairly simple opposition as the Toffees put three past goalkeeper Muric, with goals from James Tarkoswki, now Aston Villa player Amadou Onana, and Ashley Young allowed the Blues to enter the hat for the quarterfinal of the competition, giving Everton fans hope of a possible trip to Wembley!
However, when Everton drew Fulham at Goodison, the run would soon end. A late goal from Beto meant the game went to penalties! Unfortunately, a key penalty miss by Amadou Onana meant the Toffees crashed out of the cup, and Fulham were on their way to Wembley.
Currently, Everton sit rock bottom of the Premier League table due to a 3-0 defeat at home against Brighton and a 4-0 battering away from home against Tottenham, where some fans’ reactions were strong and unacceptable. A video has emerged of some fans hurling abuse at some of the players, mainly Mason Holgate and Neal Maupay. It has come so far that the French striker has taken to X to react to the situation.
Neal Maupay on X:
“Imagine another job where it’s normalised to get abuse like this.
Hanging around at a train station to scream at men who are trying their best…”
