Everton Face Salford City In The Second Pre-Season Friendly

Everton travel a bit closer to home this time around as they face Salford City away in the second pre-season friendly this season.

The first game of the season for Everton was in Ireland, returning to legend Seamus Coleman’s hometown club, Sligo Rovers. Two goals by Portuguese striker Youssef Chermiti was enough to salvage a draw, with the game ending 3-3.

A training camp close to home compared to other destinations by other clubs in the Premier League, for example, Manchester United travelling to the USA, allowed the Toffees, in Sean Dyche’s words, “to stay regionalised,” allowing the Irish fans “to feel a connection with the squad.”.

Everton Incomings This Season:

Tim Ireogbunam - Aston Villa

Iliman Ndiaye - Marseille

Jesper Lindstrøm- Napoli

Both Ireogbunam and Iliman Ndiaye were on the bench for the game against Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds, with only Ireogbunam featuring. An impressive performance in that central defensive midfield role is a promising sign that he is able to replace Amadou Onana following his recent £50 million transfer to Aston Villa.

The opposition, Salford City, has made multiple free transfers this summer transfer window. Key signings such as right-back Tom Edwards from Stoke City and attacking midfielder Ben Woodburn from Preston North End should be enough to stay away from the relegation zone and into the National League.

A poor 20th-place finish last season in League 2 will surely be remembered as a lacklustre season, with manager Karl Robinson wanting to change it around.

The most recent result for Salford was a 3-1 win over Warrington Town on July 24th, and they will be looking to bounce upon this into the game against the Blues.
