Everton Deadline Day Roundup!

Here is the roundup of deadline day for Everton. There is still time as there is late links with Chelsea striker Armado Broja!

Incomings:

Orel Mangala:

Everton confirmed the signing of Orel Mangala from Olympique Lyonnais on loan for the 24/25 season. The Belgian midfielder has played in the Premier League in the past, something important to manager Sean Dyche, as he has mentioned in many interviews before. For Nottingham Forest, Mangala has made 53 appearances, managing to score 2 goals and make 1 assist.

Speaking to Nottingham Forest fans, many have said he is similar to recent outgoing Amadou Onana, a strong defensive midfielder, and it was apparently sad to see Mangala go when he joined Lyon.

Sean Dyche on Mangala:

“We’re pleased to strengthen our midfield with the arrival of Orel.”

“We want competition for places throughout our squad and his loan signing gives us extra options and adds depth to our midfield.”

Francis Gomez:

Everton U21 have signed 18 year old Francis Gomez from Nigerian side Sporting Supreme. Instantly, the midfielder will travel to France to join Lyon on loan to continue his career and improve.

Outgoings:

Neal Maupay:

French striker Neal Maupay has left Everton this deadline day to return to his home nation, joining Marseille on a season-long loan.

The expectations for Maupay compared to the reality shocked a lot of Evertonians, with the striker only managing to score 1 goal in 32 appearances. You could tell he wasn’t liked by Everton fans as when Fabirizo Romano used his ritual “Here we go!” in relation to this transfer, Maupay replied with a video of a snippet of The Shawshank Redemption.

It seems he has left on bad terms, and he won’t be welcomed by Toffee fans to Goodison again.

Jenson Metcalfe:

Metcalfe has joined Chesterfield in League Two on a season-long loan.

The midfielder is a prospect for the first team in the future, with the under-21’s at the moment actually winning the Everton under-21’s player of the season during the promotion back to the Football League under the management of Paul Tait.

Billy Crellin:

Goalkeeper Billy Crellin has signed a loan deal with League Two side Accrington Stanley.

A new addition to Sean Dyche’s first team, Billy Crellin will be spending the season under John Doolan to further his development.

Halid Djankpata:

Halid Djankpata has completed a permanent move to Italian side Spezia for an undisclosed fee.

The Italian player joined the club at age 14 but will joining the Serie B side.

Francis Okoronkwo:

Another extremely promising prospect for the future Francis Okoronkwo has signed a season long loan deal with Salford United.

The striker, throughout pre season, spent time with the Senior Men’s team in Ireland and had recently been a starting 11 player under Paul Tait’s management for the under 21’s.

Okoronkwo came on in the second half against Salford during pre season and now will be spending the season with them!

Mason Holgate:

Defender Mason Holgate completed a late loan move to West Bromwich Albion for the 24/25 EFL Championship season.

Similar to the exit of Neal Maupay, Mason Holgate was not liked by a lot of Everton fans making the exit seem a positive rather than a negative.

The 27-year-old has spent time for West Brom during 2019 and will be returning to the Hawthorns.

Thank you for reading my deadline day report!
