Everton Confirm Premier League Safety!

Everton’s 1-0 win over Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 2-1 win over Luton Town confirm that Everton will be playing Premier League football next season.

In a season full of ups and downs and lots of controversy regarding point deductions, Everton have defied the odds and have stayed up!

3 home games for Everton this week. 3 wins. 9 points. 5 goals scored. 0 conceded. It was completely unexpected from the Toffees.

It seems ever since Sean Dyche made the change from the suit to the tracksuit, all has been well for the Blues!

Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed out due to illness, playing through it on Wednesday night vs. Liverpool, but Sean Dyche said that he was not able to fully recover quickly enough.

The first half of the game today was very tense, with a lack of chances for either side to go ahead. The end of the first half ended goalless, with not a load of hope for the Toffees going into the second half.

However, 15 minutes into the second half, following an Everton corner and a scrappy situation in the Brentford penalty area, it fell into the path of Senegalese midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye, who struck it past goalkeeper Mark Flekken to make it 1-0 for the Toffees.

Everton had something to hold onto now, especially the fact that a win would confirm Premier League safety, and they did!

A notable performance by Dwight McNeil created a huge difference in allowing Everton to see out a narrow victory; hitting the bar was extremely unlucky, but his constant drive forwards was key.

In Sean Dyche’s post-match interview, he explained his thoughts about the fact that Everton are safe:

"I am pleased for everyone. It was a massive week and we've managed to get three clean sheets and nine points."

“The reaction [of the Chelsea game] was first class.”

“They [the players] stayed true to the cause.”
