The first half, in summary, was extremely even. Both teams didn’t seem to pose any threat attacking. It ended goalless in the first 45 minutes.
However, when the second half began, it seemed Sean Dyche’s side switched it up a gear and smashed Doncaster Rovers all throughout. The first of the three came when new signing Tim Iroegbunam picked up the ball on the edge of the box. What first looked like a sweet strike into the bottom left corner past the goalkeeper emerged into a moment of confusion. After the ball hit the back of the net, Dwight McNeil went off celebrating with his hand up in the air, claiming the goal.
When the replay of the finish was shown on the big screens around Goodison Park, it seemed the shot took a huge deflection off McNeil’s foot and ended up in the bottom left corner of the Gwladys’ Street End net. However, the official goal scorer is Tim Ireogbunam. How confusing 🤔
Tim Ireogbuam Premier League Stats:
The second goal came only 20 minutes later. When Senegalese midfielder Iliman Ndiaye picked up the ball in the final third, he continued to dribble and drive towards the Doncaster defence. He was able to thrive past the back line and slot it past Irish goalkeeper Ian Lawlor, making the advantage 2 to the Blues.
The third goal came in the 83rd minute, when Beto slotted it home. Although it was clear he was becoming worked up due to his performance throughout the night, because of some chances that he should’ve put away but didn’t, Beto was able to get his goal, and he appeared very relieved during the celebration.
Everton are into the hat for the third round.
