It’s almost the exact same situation as last math day. Everton were unexpectedly 2-0 up at Villa Park but somehow threw the game away, and the final score ended 3-2 to Aston Villa.

In the first 15 minutes of the game, Aston Villa were thrashing Everton. A successive run of corners and counterattacks left Villa Park erupting. This was however, when Everton attacked, and when Dwight McNeil hit a strike from outside the box, it wasn’t long until it slid past Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez, and Everton were given an advantage out of nowhere!
Only 10 minutes later, Everton had a set piece on the right-hand side of the goal. Whilst the away end were producing a cacophony, Dwight McNeil’s delivery into the box landed perfectly for Calvert-Lewin, heading it home to make the score 2-0 to the Toffees.
The main hope now for Sean Dyche and his side was to stay in the game until halftime, allowing the squad to regroup and refresh. However, this wasn’t the case. As ex-Everton fullback Lucas Digne whipped the ball into the far post, Ollie Watkins came out on top against Tarkoswki and headed it past Jordan Pickford, giving Villa some hope during the break that they could turn it around, and didn’t they just!

Even with the one goal lead, the Evertonians were still extremely nervous, as the team’s past results are nothing to go by. Especially last week, where the Toffees were 2-0 up at home against Bournemouth in the 85th minute but somehow lost the game:

Unai Emery’s side came out with a point to prove. After qualifying for Champions League football this week, it is a big week ahead as they play this first game in the European competition at Young Boys away from home. To give the team the confidence they need, a win was necessary.
It didn’t take long either, as in the 58th minute a loose ball fell to an unmarked Watkins in the area and slotted it into the bottom left corner, making it a brace for the English international.
If you hadn’t guessed it already, a third was to come for Aston Villa. This time was no fault of any Everton player. As John Duran picked up the ball approximately 30-35 yards out, a power shot flew past Pickford, perhaps marking an early goal of the season contender. A shocked reaction on Martinez’s face after the goal went in summed up every Villa fan.
