Manchester City defeated Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park, with goals from Harrison, Silva, Foden, and Alvarez.
An initial goal in the 29th minute by Everton winger Jack Harrison gave the Blues something to work on against a top Manchester City side. It seemed Sean Dyche's team was giving City a real go, looking on their level for the first half. However, when the second half came around, it was a different story.
Pep Guardiola's side came out dominant, destroying Everton at what seemed like every single opportunity. Phil Foden, the Manchester City winger, hit one from the edge of the box that flowed past Pickford.
Only 11 minutes later, Amadou Onana was found guilty of a handball within the Everton penalty area, and after a VAR decision, it was given. The Argentinian striker, Julian Alvarez, stepped up and put it past the goalkeeper, who got a hand on it.
The game continued on, with chances for both sides and an especially close miss by Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, which denied Everton a chance to get back into the game.
Finally, a poor clearance by Jordan Pickford landed straight to midfielder Bernardo Silva, who curled one with his left foot into the left-hand side of the net from the edge of the box.
Pep Guardiola wasn't as proud of his squad in his post-match interview with talkSPORT, exclaiming that his team has 100% produced better performances in their recent fixtures. When asked if there was a key to winning the game, he replied with:
"We scored three goals, and they scored one."
On the other hand, Sean Dyche's interview was one of anger. Especially on the handball. Saying that:
"The linesman gives it stood 50 yards away - I've no idea what that's about!"
Onto the next game for the Toffees: Wolves away on December 30 at 15:00 for the last game of 2023, and the end of a bumpy season for the Blues!
