Calvert-Lewin Saves A Point For The Toffees

An 88th minute penalty by Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin was the goal that gave the Blues a point at a robust St James' Park!

Everton came into the game as underdogs, swiftly being resembled as Swedish man Isak was the first goalscorer, slotting it past Jordan Pickford in the 15th minute.

A drop in morale reflected on Everton's lethargic energy levels, as the possession statistics prove:

A lifeline for Everton occurred when Sean Dyche decided to make a triple substitution:

OFF: Abdoulaye Doucoure, Amadou Onana, Beto

ON: James Garner, Andre Gomes, Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The game-changer, Calvert Lewin, was introduced to play, and in the 87th minute, it was his time to shine. After going goalless for months, he had his opportunity.

When defender Ashley Young was fouled in the box by Newcastle recent substitute Paul Dummett, a VAR check led to an on-field review, resulting in a penalty for the Blues.

Calvert-Lewin smashed it to the right-hand side of the net. Despite the goalkeeper going the same way, there is nothing he could have done to withstand it due to the sheer power of the shot.

It resulted in a goal for Everton, giving them something to hold on to going into the nine minutes of additional time at the end of the second half, which they did. Going home with a point is what was needed, taking into account the position the Toffees find themselves in.
