Everton host Crystal Palace at Hill Dickinson Stadium, where Oliver Glasner’s side are hoping to continue their extremely impressive run of form, with the Seagulls currently 19 games unbeaten in all competitions!
With Everton’s poor result last time out at the new stadium, a lacklustre 1-1 draw to West Ham, with Nuno Espirito Santos getting his first outing in the Hammer’s dugout, going up against Palace’s recent performances, this matchup has the possibility to be a major struggle for Moyes and his sqaud. It won’t also help the Toffees that Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who’s played an outstanding role within Everton’s midfield so far this season, even contributing a goal and an assist in the 3-2 win over Wolves a couple of months back, won’t be available for the match versus Crystal Palace due to picking up 5 yellow cards already since the first matchweek.
Although Dewsbury-Hall has to serve the punishment received, David Moyes explained, in his pre-match press conference, that the club have spoken to PGMOL regarding the bookings the 27-year-old has been handed, with the Scottish manager stating that “I think they (PGMOL) are accepting that both of the yellow cards are wrong,” referring to the situations within the West Ham result and the quick free kick the Englishman took in the Merseyside Derby defeat.Moyes has also revealed that both Jarrad Branthwaite and Merlin Röhl will again be unavailable for the clash at Bramley-Moore Dock. When asked about both of the players' current recoveries, the Scotsman stated that they are “both the same – no change; neither of them is fit for the game, but they're both making progress, and, with a little bit of luck, we'll start to get them on the grass. We've not got them on the grass yet in training, so that's where we're at."
Last time out for Crystal Palace was away in Poland, playing Dynamo Kiev in the first fixture of the UEFA Conference League competition this season. The Ukrainian club have been playing their games in Poland since war broke out in Ukraine to ensure safety for all players and staff and also to play in European competitions. The Eagles came out on top, winning 2-0 on Thursday evening, with goals coming through Daniel Munoz (31st minute) and Eddie Nketiah (58th minute). In his pre-match press conference, Oliver Glasner confirmed that Will Hughes had picked up a quad injury when in Poland, but other than that, all others remain fit at this moment in time.
When Glasner was asked about the recent form, the 51-year-old humbly explained that all credit should go to the players, “because they have to perform on the pitch, and they have to work so hard that we can get these results. But honestly, we don't talk about it in our meetings or on the pitch. But yes, we are asked about it more and more. The approach is the same. We don’t go to Everton saying, 'Let’s just extend the run'; we go there and will try to win the game. Every win, every good performance, increases the self-confidence, and this is what we can see.”
Glasner was questioned about the recent form of the Toffees, explaining that, “I don’t think Everton have struggled. They drew against West Ham. They lost a very tight game against Liverpool, and I think they had a very good performance against them. They’ve made a few signings, like Jack Grealish – a great player, a fantastic dribbler, and I think he’s near the top for creating the most chances in the Premier League.”
