A different approach for Everton occurred today, a 3-5-2 formation with wing backs Mykolenko and Patterson working hard up and down the bylines, with Beto and Ndiaye working off each other up top.
On the Everton bench, there were two academy kids, Butterfield and Leban, and for Peterborough, Ashley Young’s son, Tyler, was a substitute. Unfortunately, they both did not feature on the pitch together, which would have been a real wholesome moment for the father and kid.
A huge chance to open the scoring came around the 20th minute in the hands of Belgian midfielder Orel Mangala. A loose ball on the edge of the box landed to Mangala with a perfect opportunity for a strike towards goal. The 26-year-old caught the ball amazingly; however, it clashed with the crossbar, heading out for a corner.

To open the scoring, just before halftime, a pinpoint pass by academy kid Harrison Armstrong into the path of Portuguese striker Beto, who swooped around the Peterborough goalkeeper, Bilokapic, before slotting the ball into the back of the Park End net, giving Everton a 1-goal advantage heading into the halftime break!
Throughout the duration of the second half, chances went both ways, but Everton were on top of their opposition. Most creative chances were going through Harrison Armstrong, really revealing his ability on the ball to Evertonians, who may become a gem in the future.
In the 68th minute, Armando Broja went down injured, and taking a long time for the ball to exit the field of play meant the Albanian was on the turf with no support for a while. Unfortunately, the loanee needed a stretcher to take him off, exiting Goodison Park instantly, not a good sign for him and Everton, already low on striker options due to other injuries.
During the lengthy 10 minutes of added time, due to the time for Broja to come off the pitch, Jarrad Branthwaite was tackled down to the floor by Peterborough defender Jadel Katongo within the penalty area. The referee, Thomas Bramall, pointed to the spot, and Iliman Ndiaye was the man to take it. He simply slotted it, sending the goalie the other way, ending 2-0 to the Toffees!
