Everton travel to the G-Tech Community Stadium to face Thomas Frank’s Brentford, and if last away day’s result is anything to go by, the Toffees will be hopeful of claiming a huge result, although arguably a much tougher test this time around.
The last fixture away from Goodison Park for Moyes’ side was at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace. The Blyes managed to overcome another Glasner side through goals from Beto and Carlos Alcaraz, giving the Toffees the three points in a 2-1 win on the south coast. The Portuguese goal scorer continues to be in a rich vein of form, adding to his goal tally in the 2-2 draw against Manchester United last Saturday too.
Beto Since David Moyes Appointment:
Appearances: 6
Goals: 5
Assists: 0
Against the Red Devils, the Toffees were 2-0 up at halftime and looking like they were going to see it through. However, this wasn’t the case after a world-class free kick from Bruno Fernandes and a volley only minutes later from Ugarte saved a point for United. Last-minute controversy over a penalty claim when Ashley Young was brought down in the penalty area when both central defenders De Ligt and Maguire collectively tugged the English fullback down to the floor. The preferred angle, showing the shirt pulling, was not shown to referee Andy Madley after VAR officials believed it would be the better option to make the referee come to the monitor; therefore, the penalty was not given and the game ended just moments later, with the points being shared.
On the other hand, Brentford made the trip north to Leicester, facing Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side. The mood around Brentford’s opponents has been draining due to the position in the table. Adding to the frustration, a section of Foxes’ fans have been recently protesting about the board, complaining about the lack of vision for the club’s future goals and aspirations, hopefully being in the Premier League, but at this stage that doesn’t seem the case. Both Leicester’s Director of Football, Jon Rudkin, and chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, are under mass amounts of pressure, with the manager saying after a couple weeks back that “it is passion” from the fans.
It wasn’t any issue for Thomas Frank’s side, though, as a 4-0 demolition with goals from superstars Wissa and Mbuemo, and also Nørgaard and Carvalho, gave Brentford all three points, climbing to 11th place in the Premier League table.
Brentford Form This Season:
Won: 11
Drawn: 4
Lost: 11
Both clubs' decent recent form will hopefully shape up for a tight encounter, perhaps a game of margins and mistakes that may be costly. It won’t help the Bees that team captain and goal scorer last time out, Christian Nørgaard, has been ruled out for the game due to a concussion, due to being subbed off at halftime at the King Power Stadium. On the other hand, David Moyes’ pre-match press conference has revealed that there are no fresh injuries to be concerned about. Instead, more positive news for Evertonians that both Lindstrøm and Iroegbunam have recovered from their illnesses, and Scottish fullback Nathan Patterson is back on the grass in full first team training after picking up a hamstring injury earlier on in the campaign. Iliman Ndiaye, Broja, Calvert-Lewin, Dwight McNeil, Orel Mangala, Seamus Coleman, and Youseff Chermiti remain out due to lengthy injuries.
